A number of Church members fulfill their pledges by making a contribution of shares of stock or mutual funds. With the stock market at record highs, it becomes especially attractive to transfer appreciated shares to UUCPA, thus receiving a charitable deduction for the full market value while avoiding any tax on the appreciation of the stock.
Find complete instructions in the Giving section of this site or ask any member of the Finance Committee.
If the transfer is completed by December 31, 2013, it can be credited in the calendar year 2013 and reported on your 2013 Federal and state tax returns.
Remember that stockbrokers can get quite busy at year end, so allow plenty of time. The IRS is quite strict about the December 31, 2013 date.

For those of us who like auto-pay systems so we don't have to think about where we are in our pledge payments, most banks today offer bill payment (often free with your account) to take the hassle out of remembering to pay your pledge. It's free to us and to you usually - so if you're already a bill paying person - add UUCPA to your payee list and just decide whether you want to make monthly, quarterly, weekly, or whatever payments you'd like.
On February 8th, we kicked off this year’s Canvass with a fabulous All-Church Dinner! More than 120 attendees joined together for pizza, drink, ice cream, conversation, and even a sing-along. It was a great night that affirmed how much we love UUCPA.
Thank you to everyone who made the dinner a success, including everyone who attended, all who graciously staffed the event, the musicians and singers who led the sing-along, and especially the event co-chairs -- Shannon Casey, Diane Jakubowski, and Krysia Lindan -- who led the way to a great evening.
