Local Organizing Committee for Peninsula Interfaith Action

Meets monthly, First Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.

Peninsula Interfaith Action is a association of nearly 30 churches, temples, synagogs, and mosques from eleven different denominations who have come together in the belief that religious people and institutions can make a difference. PIA Community Organizers train a Local Organizing Committee at member churches.  LOCs then talk to people in their neighborhoods, seeking to identify concerns and to work toward solutions to problems that might be identified.

The UUCPA Local Organizing Committee has worked for positive social change in education, affordable housing, safety, and healthcare.  Our congregation made a significant contribution to building The Opportunity Center in Palo Alto, and also worked with local governments to have affordable housing built.

We found a need for tutors at a near-by school, and have been training and sending tutors through our Ripples program for more than 10 years.

The current foucs is on making affordable heathcare available to all children and working adults.
